Actors Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem are married. Amanda Silverman, Cruz's representative, confirmed to the Associated Press today that the couple wed at a friend's house in the Bahamas earlier this month. Legendary designer John Galliano, a longtime friend of Cruz's, designed her wedding dress.
Spanish-born actress Cruz, 36, rose to fame in the 1992 movie Jamon, jamon, in which, fatefully, her costar was none other than Bardem. The couple, however, didn't start dating until 2007. Cruz went on to star in movies such as Volver (2006) for which she received Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations. In 2008, she won an Oscar for her role in the Woody Allen-directed film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, making her the first Spanish actress ever to take home the golden statue. She again shared the screen with Bardem in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and they began a romantic relationship.
The 41-year-old Bardem, born in the Canary Islands, was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for 2001's Before Night Falls, and won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in No Country for Old Men (2007).
Cruz dated Tom Cruise from 2001 to 2004, and Matthew McConaughey from 2005-2006.
