After rumors of Anchorman actor Paul Rudd being considered for the starring role in Marvel’s new Ant-Man, it seems like Rudd may finally get the part.
Rumors of Rudd’s involvement began in October, along with whispers about Joseph Gordon-Levitt landing the role. Considering Gordon-Levitt is busy directing and acting in his own superhero movie, it appears Rudd is now the primary choice.
Though Rudd announced last week that he was not in serious talks with Marvel, Variety reported differently.
According to Marvel Studios, fans won’t have to wait much longer for an announcement on Rudd’s role in the movie, since the studio promised in October that the cast list would be released before the end of the year.
“[Edgar Wright] is working on just sort of tweaking the drafts with Joe Cornish,” Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige said. “There should be some cast announcements probably before the end of the year.”
Little is currently known about the plot, though it is rumored to focus on the later years of Ant-Man and nemeses Scott Lang, who steals the transforming technology to become the new Ant-Man.
Rashida Jones has been considered as love interest in the film, and has screen credits with Rudd. The two actors have plated alongside each other in I Love You, Man and Our Idiot Brother.
