The Palms Casino Resort in Las vegas will play host to four different events from August 2011 to January 2012 and the season will wrap immediately after the fourth event with a $1 million freeroll Championship.
The four no-rake $20k main events in the series will include different formats of No-Limit Texas Hold'em, including six-handed, heads-up, and a special multi-format tournament to round out the season.
"We decided to vary the format of our events to showcase and challenge the skill of the best live tournament players in the world," said Duke, who will act as Commissioner of the new Federated League.
The league will provide prizepool overlays across the four different tournaments.
The world’s top 200 players, according to the league's own ranking system based on an eligibility formula using historic statistics similar to those governing professional golf and tennis, will be invited to play.
However, players who do not qualify for a league card will have a chance to get in as each tournament week will begin with a $1,500 Pro-Am event awarding the top nine finishers a temporary league card for that week's main event.
Duke says the structure should allow players to show off their skills.
"Because the main events have four or more days to play down to a winner from a start of approximately 200 players, we believe it will offer the best, most friendly structures for the skilled player out there," said Duke. "Great structures, no rake and generous overlays are integral to our celebration of the best live tournament players in the world."
Once the four main events have played out, the top 27 players in the league standings will be invited to the $1 million freeroll Championship event
