New 'Oz' Film to Star Dan Aykroyd, Kelsey Grammer

Publish date:

Completely unconnected to the current mega-successful Disney reimagining Oz the Great and Powerful, a 3D animated musical called Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return will be on our screens in 2014. It promises to stick far more to the books and features an incredible voice cast, including Kelsey Grammer, Dan Aykroyd, Patrick Stewart and Bernadette Peters as Glinda. And Bryan Adams has done the songs.

Bryan Adams? Incredible.

The film was first announced back in 2011. But it seems everyone forgot about it until now.

The story is said to be an adaptation of the book Dorothy of Oz by Roger Stanton Baum (Frank’s great grandson). Dorothy, voiced by Leah Michelle, goes back to Kansas to find her home devastated by the twister.

The full cast announced so far includes:

Leah Michelle, Dan Aykroyd as Scarecrow, Kelsey Grammer as Tin Man, James Belushi as Cowardly Lion, Bernadette Peters as Glinda the Good Witch, plus Martin Short, Hugh Dancy, Patrick Stewart, Oliver Platt, and Brian Blessed.

Brian Blessed!

The film is the work of Dan St. Pierre and Will Finn whose CVs include Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The screenplay is by  relative unknowns Adam Balsam and Randi Barnes.

This could be really good.
