Three of Nelson Mandela's granddaughters have announced that they will star in their own reality TV series.
Swati Dlamini said the series will be about "our lives as young, black women … We're not wearing 'I'm a Mandela' T-shirts." Dlamini also said that she plans to launch a foundation focused on housing, education and medical issues, reports the South Africa Mail & Guardian Online.
Added cousin Dorothy Adjoa Amuah: "We're definitely not the African Kardashians."
Zaziwe Dlamini-Manaway, the third granddaughter, plans to launch her own clothing line, which does sound a bit Kardashian (i.e. The Kardashian Kollection).
Nelson Mandela and the parents of the reality show stars will not appear on the series. But producer Rick Leed said the show is "not going to detract from the dignity of Nelson Mandela. They clearly have a great love (for each other). This may be part storytelling, part reality, except the story we are telling is real."
The show is tentatively set to air in 2012. There is no word yet on exactly where the show will run.
