It was the shining moment of a life filled with tragedy -- Blair Griffith was crowned Miss Colorado USA last October. But just a month later she found herself homeless, and now Blair is opening up about her ordeal.
"It was a difficult thing to go through to sit there and go, 'Where are we going to go now,'" the 23-year-old beauty said after she and her mother were evicted from their home.
It was the latest of many setbacks. Blair's father died of prostate cancer when she was just 14. He was the one who encouraged her to enter the pageant world. She won Miss Colorado Teen USA in 2006 on her fourth try.
"I cried because I wish that he could've been there to see it," she said.
Then three years ago her mother suffered a heart attack. Surgery depleted the family's savings, eventually leading to the eviction. They are now staying with friends.
To make matters worse, Blair is about to lose her job -- the department store where she works is set to close next month.
"I was telling my mother the other day, 'You know, what would be really shocking? To hear great news,'" she joked. "It seems to happen once a month. Something new is being thrown at me."
Blair said while unfortunate, she hopes her experiences can motivate others when she makes appearances at schools and other events.
"[People] are going to look and say 'OK, if she can be Miss Colorado USA and have all this going on in her life and still be focused on her goals and dreams... then I can too,'" Blair said.
Griffith will compete for the crown of Miss USA 2011 in June.
