Elvis Presley, a music icon, passed away suddenly on August 16, 1977 at the age of 42 from a heart attack. Every year since 1980, a vigil has been held at his home, now a museum, Graceland. People have come to the mansion in Memphis, Tennessee and light candles, draw his face on the street, and lay flowers on the gravesite where he has been laid to rest.
For the first time ever, both his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley and his ex-wife Priscilla surprised the crowd at Graceland when they showed up together to attend the memorial event.
When asked by Natalie Morales of The Today Show why they would both be attending the vigil of Elvis Presley, Priscilla stated,
“It just seems like it’s the right time.”
Lisa stated she was always the happiest at Graceland. She didn’t attend past events because she was afraid that she couldn’t contain her emotions.
“This is something that Elvis would never ever have believed could have taken place here.”
Lisa Marie will be performing with an image of Elvis during a special tribute concert.
