Oh, Keith Richards. Such a rock ‘n’ roll rebel.
The guitar legend allegedly threatened and hit a reporter during a recent interview with Swedish publication Aftonbladets, after Richards realised the music reviewer was responsible for a negative review of a Stones concert.
Markus Larsson had given the band a 2 out of 5 rating for a concert in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2007, and described them as “amateurs.”
According to Spinner, Richards spat the dummy while promoting his new book Life at a Paris hotel.
Recalling the incident, Larsson said, “The mood of the rock star quickly changed. His eyes got black and he was absolutely furious.
“He stood up and asked if we would put out the lights and settle the disagreement straight away. At first I was just surprised, I thought he was pulling my leg, but then I realised he was serious and then I felt uncomfortable and I just wanted to get out of there pretty fast.”
Sweden’s Aftonbladet newspaper reported: “The meeting ended with the rock star threatening Markus Larsson and hitting him in the head.”
Richards, fuming that Larsson refused to apologise for his negative review, then reportedly hissed, “You’re lucky to get out of here alive.”
Not surprised there was no mea culpa from Larsson. Quoted after the controversy over his 2007 review, he said,“I am not going to apologise for my subjective opinion… It is Keith who should apologize. After all it costs around $145 to see a rock star who can hardly handle the (guitar) riff to ‘Brown Sugar’ any more.”
No word from Richards’ reps yet.
