Keira Knightley has been tipped to play the lead role in a movie based on the life of Diana, Princess of Wales.
According to British tabloid reports, UK film company Pathe has reportedly started work on the movie, and are lining up Knightley, 25, to play Diana.
Dame Helen Mirren has also been earmarked to play Diana’s mother, Frances Shand Kydd, according to the Daily Mail.
The film is shrouded in secrecy, claims the website’s report, with its release date, planned for next year, timed to coincide with the Princess’s 50th birthday.
“The project is in the early stages but Pathe has chosen 2011 quite deliberately,” a film industry insider said.
“There’s a buzz about this. Pathe also made The Duchess, which starred Keira as Georgiana, the fifth Duchess of Devonshire — the great-great-great-great aunt of Diana — and controversially used an image of Diana to trail the movie.
Adds the source: “They believe that footage made the film a big hit in America where Diana still has a loyal following. They think Keira will be perfect to play Diana.
“It will be in the same vein as their movie The Queen and will detail the ups and downs of Diana’s marriage and the early lives of the Princes.”
Not sure about Keira as Di to be honest. Don’t think she could handle the jandal. Kate Winslet maybe?
