Julia Roberts' Half-Sister Nancy Motes Blames Star in Suicide Note

Julia Roberts' half sister Nancy Motes, who was found dead on Sunday Los Angeles, cited her unhealthy relationship with Roberts as a cause of her suicide.

Motes’ fiancé, John Dilbeck, found the 37-year-old dead in the bathtub of a home where she was pet-sitting. The coroner said a prescription drug overdose was the likely cause.

A source told the New York Daily News that three pages of Motes’ five-page suicide letter was devoted to her poisoned relationship with Roberts.

"It was definitely a suicide. She left a five-page suicide letter. The EMT found it," the source said.

"There were three pages of rantings that her sister drove her to do this. There was one page to her mom, telling her how much she loved her, and one page apologizing to (her fiancé John Dilbeck).”

Motes told the News in an interview last August that Roberts taunted her about her weight issues when she was in high school and Roberts was an adult heading for stardom.

All the same, she added that as family, “we love each other absolutely”.

“I love Julia absolutely, and I have no doubt she loves me,” she said.

Roberts helped Motes get a job as a production assistant on the set of Glee— but at almost 300 pounds, Motes fell into a depression. She later underwent gastric bypass surgery and slimmed down to almost half that weight.

The News reports that Motes had tweeted worrisome messages leading up to her death.

"So my 'sister' said that with all her friends & fans she doesn't need any more love. Just so you all know 'America's Sweetheart' is a B----!!'" she tweeted on Jan. 20, referencing Roberts’ 2001 romantic comedy “America's Sweethearts.”

“Do you want to be a fan of someone so cruel? She's not even that good of an actress. Happy you totally F---ed with me?" she posted later.

Roberts canceled all her appearances following her half-sister’s death. Her family said in a statement that it was “shocked and devastated” by the news.
