Is Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake's Engagement a Business Agreement?

Jessica and Justin had an engagement party on Saturday. Or someone decided at the last minute to have people over for hot dogs and then it somehow became a celebration of two people who may or may not actually get married. See, there is nothing more hearty warming than two people who are joining in a spiritual union that they both acknowledge is probably not based on a commitment of love, but one of boosting one’s own brand image.

I mean, when was the last time you attended a wedding and the vows included a stanza about forsaking one’s one publicist or honoring thine own fashion label or beauty contract? Because these celebrity marriages, as I have said, are often put together and dissected in the offices of managers in Hollywood.

Sort of like an arranged marriage where the parents discuss each other’s dowry. But in this case it is about what management team, album sales, and endorsement deals you bring to the table. Love? Well that isn’t that important. Making out? Sure. A little here or there. But a long term commitment that results in children and a family trust? Not so much.

I am surprised we haven’t seen exclusive pictures yet.

“I don’t think our marriage will change anything,” the 30-year-old actress told the French magazine Gala. “It will be a challenge finding a balance between my private life, family and work, and I’m ready.”

It also won’t change the agreement they discussed when he made it very clear that he wasn’t so much into be faithful or having children or co-starring in a musical directed by Adam Shankman.

But just because she’s ready for marriage, don’t expect the famous couple to start a family right away. Biel told the magazine she’s someone who “lets things happen naturally” but may not be ready to take on the role of motherhood so quickly.

“For me, getting married doesn’t mean we should limit ourselves to some predefined idea. Rather, it’s an opportunity to explore new things in life, ” says Biel.

Translation: I already begged him to get married; I can’t rock the boat with chatter about my ovaries.

What exactly attracts her to Timberlake?

“The ability to communicate well … to be able to express his feelings. Then, loyalty. And, finally, honesty,” she explained.

And the ticket to the Met Ball or the seat at the Grammy’s or getting my wedding pictures in the weeklies is not bad either.
