File this one under ‘F for fantastical and full of it’: New American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez has laughed off reports that she’s a diva dropping some major ‘tude.
Speaking at the non-news event of the year, aka the Idol press conference in Inglewood, California today, Lopez balked at reports that her diva-like demands had stalled negotiations with Idol bosses.
“After as many years as I’ve been in this business, I’m used to that kind of stuff,” she said.
“I’m used to speculation. I wasn’t really worried about it. I was just looking forward to getting started.”
If anything, she says she was the one trying to calm Fox down when the rumours first started.
“I was calming the FOX people down,” she said. “I was like, ‘Listen, it’ll be gone tomorrow. Once they hear who we are and what we’re doing, it’s going to be fine.”
Even executive producer Nigel Lythgoe made a funny.
“I said to Jennifer today, we heard that she only likes yellow M&Ms,” he said.
“I’m thinking, ‘Who’s going to pick them all out for her?’ She said, ‘No, where did that come from?’”
Mike Darnell, head of alternative programming on FOX, said: “I can tell you from the Fox standpoint, the deal was not tough. There were no diva demands. It was a really easy, comfortable deal with both parties.”
So what can we expect from J-Lo? Good cop or bad cop?
Plenty of “tough love,” she said, but “I don’t think I will ever, as an artist, put down another artist.”
Let’s see if she feels the same way when her ex hubby rocks up to an audition singing one of her songs. Boom!
