Talk about anti-climactic!
We’ve known for more than a month that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler were going to join Randy Jackson at the judges' table for the next season of American Idol. Fox finally made the official announcement today.
In a press release, Peter Rice, Chairman of Entertainment for Fox Networks Group, said, “We’re incredibly excited to have Jennifer join the Fox family. From the worlds of dance and music to television, films and fashion, she is a global superstar with iconic and captivating style, along with impressive insight on how to reach and move audiences worldwide.”
The new judges were trotted out this morning at the Forum in Inglewood, where thousands of Idol hopefuls are currently auditioning.
“I’m so excited to be here,” JLo said to the crowd. “I’m looking for the next Michael Jackson.”
“You can do anything you want in this life,” Lopez told Ryan Seacrest after the announcement. “You just have to concentrate on the goal and do the best you can.”
Tyler said: “I want to bring some rock to this roller coaster.”
He added in a statement released after the press conference: “I’ve been on tour for most of my life in a band with four guys who judge me every day. Sometimes it hurt, but it only made me stronger. I want to give everybody a little love before I decide who goes home heartbroken. If you don’t like what I say, don’t get mad, get better. I’m ready to bring some rock to this ‘roller’ coaster and show these kids if they have the dream, the talent and the drive, they will be the next American Idol.”
And off we go!
