TLC recently canceled the reality TV show, "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," because of reports that "Mama June" Shannon was dating former boyfriend Mark McDaniel, a convicted child molester.
Shannon's daughter, Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell, 20, was reportedly molested by McDaniel when she was 8 years old.
According to RadarOnline.com, Cardwell told HLN’s "Dr. Drew On Call" on Monday that her mother didn't believe her when she told her that McDaniel had sexually abused her in 2002.
“My mama didn’t believe me for a while, and she’s like, ‘Why would you do that? Why would you do that to me? I can’t believe you did that!’” said Cardwell. “And I was like, ‘Mama, he did it. I can’t take the past back. Either you believe me, or you don’t believe me. It doesn’t matter to me.’”
In response, Shannon told Entertainment Tonight (video below) that she has never actually read the court documents that stated what McDaniel did to Cardwell, but reluctantly admitted that something probably happened.
Shannon has repeatedly denied seeing McDaniel since his release from prison earlier this year, noted the Daily Mail, even though there have been multiple pictures posted by TMZ, including one of the two together with 10-year-old Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson.
However, during her interview with Entertainment Tonight, Shannon admitted to seeing McDaniel twice since he was released from jail in March after serving a 10-year prison sentence.
Shannon claimed that she accidentally ran into McDaniel once and and met with him a second time with her 14-year-old daughter, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon, who had been raised to falsely believe that McDaniel was her biological father.
"Since two months to almost six years, she knew nobody but him," Shannon told Entertainment Tonight. "She was starting to resent Anna, and she was starting to ask me questions. I can't answer those questions for Pumpkin."
"I was sitting right there with 12 other people," added Shannon. "It was a conversation that she wanted her answers. What happened? Why did he leave? You know, if he was her real father. He admitted to her, 'No.' I had already told her that, but, you know, she wanted to hear from both sides of the story."
Shannon also claimed that the father of "Pumpkin" and her 18-year-old daughter, Jessica "Chubbs" Shannon, is another convicted sex offender, Michael Anthony Ford, who was arrested on NBC's "To Catch a Predator" TV show in 2005.
"Jessica and Pumpkin have the same dad, but Jessica's dad has had nothing to do with her over the years," stated Shannon. "So why the hell would I open up that can of worms until today? I lied to my family and told them it was somebody else."
Shannon's mother, Sandra Hale, told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month that "Honey Boo Boo" is in danger.
"The reason I say that is because that's about the same age he likes," Hale stated. "[The same age] he messed with Anna."
Shannon countered her mother by stating, "He never really talked to [Honey Boo Boo]" when he was around her.
