Florida College Group Plans 5K Naked Run to Promote Nudity

A college nudist group is organizing a naked 5K run to raise money for... nakedness.

Daniel Phillips, 25, founded Vita Nuda, a college group dedicated to the nudist lifestyle, in 2006. It aims to show people ages 18 to 30 that nudity is a liberating lifestyle. The first branch of the group was in Florida, and now there are chapters all over the US, plus an Australian branch. Phillips is planning the Streak Sunsport Gardens 5K, a nudist run, in South Florida in late August, to show young people that nudists aren't just "old hippies."

Nudity is "liberating," and "relaxing," says Phillips. "It's not risque at all."

The run will take place at the Sunsport Gardens Family Naturist Resort - a nudist vacation spot - in Loxahatchee, Florida. According to Phillips, it's the first naked run of its kind in South Florida. It costs $20 for students and military to register, $25 before August 20, and $30 from August 21 through to the day of the race. The money will go to Vita Nuda, and the group also asks that people bring used clothes and shoes to donate to charity. People of all ages may attend the run, as well as the afterparty, which is a naked pool party featuring a Slip n Slide.

Phillips next plans to launch a series of naked runs in places all over Florida.

The only caveat Phillips gives about the event is this: "No overt sexual activity or innuendo at all, or you'll be asked to leave."
