The casting process for EL James’ upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie was unlike any other in recent memory. There have been other highly scrutinized projects before, obviously, but most of them were for films that didn’t require its actors to play extremely explicit roles.
In Fifty Shades, because of the content in the books, the folks who got the starring roles would have to be totally and completely comfortable.
Naturally, when the final casting decisions were announced a few weeks ago, there was some controversy. Fans wanted Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, instead they got Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson.
How were those decisions ultimately made?
The good folks at Saturday Night Live did their best to tackle that question yesterday.
