E3: New Details on Assassin's Creed III

As previously reported here on OpposingViews, the next game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed III, will take place in the United States. On Monday, at the 2012 E3 Ubisoft press conference, we got more information about the game directly from several new trailers and a brief presentation from producer Francois Pelland. Going into more detail about the story for Assassin’s Creed III, we learn that the protagonist of the game, Connor, will fight Templar associates who have positioned themselves in both the British side of the Revolutionary War and the American side. Now don’t think of Connor as a New World traitor – the reason for this is that the game will take place over a period of 30 years, setting it before, during and after the war. Also, expect to see more historic cameos in the game as in previous installments as historic figures like George Washington, Ben Franklin, Lafayette and others interact with Connor as he fights the Templars.

Throughout the three trailers shown at the press event, which included a live gameplay demonstration, we saw how Connor will traverse the New World and complete certain objectives. Impressively enough, the use of the forest around the New England territory was amazing to behold. Connor moved through the snow covered forest with ease while on a quest to provide deer meat for the local Revolutionary Army held up there. Heading out for his next objective, we were treated to some amazing fighting mechanics in the game as Connor took on several British army men, including one that he executed this particularly brutal hanging execution move on, whilst also using his axe, bow and arrow and musket.

With the arrival of the Assassin/Templar conflict in the New World, new terrains to explore and more allies to work with, Assassin’s Creed III looks to carry on the high quality gameplay that the first several Assassin Creed games player got accustomed to. Look for Assassin’s Creed III to hit store shelves on October 30th, 2012 for Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U consoles.
