The “emotional and physical issues” that led Disney darling Demi Lovato to seek treatment in rehab were a result of heavy drinking and drug use, a new report claims.
The 18-year-old Camp Rock star checked into a Chicago area rehab centre on November 1.
A statement from her rep said: “Demi has decided to take personal responsibility for her actions and seek help. She is doing just that.
“[Demi] regrets not being able to finish her tour, but is looking forward to getting back to work in the near future.”
Since then it’s been revealed that Lovato had a bust-up with one of her backup dancers, an incident which supposedly tipped her over the edge and led to the rehab admission.
But a sensational new report claims Lovato’s problems run deeper.
A Texas college student claims he saw Lovato doing drugs at a party last December.
“She was doing line after line like a pro – and she was 17 at the time,” Brian Payne tells Life & Style magazine.
“I just remember her doing it [cocaine] as if she had been doing it for a long time,” Payne said. “It didn’t seem like something new to her.”
Payne said he and the Sunny With A Chance star partied at a friend’s house after a concert in Dallas.
Another source said, “Demi’s been on a tear lately. She’ll chug booze straight from the bottle.”
While another source says Lovato’s recent break-up with musician Joe Jonas also fuelled her downward spiral.
“This is a young girl who got caught up in the fame and fortune of Hollywood and couldn’t see straight anymore,” another source tells the magazine. “She had eating issues and emotional issues, and everything else got hitched along with that.”
While there’s undoubtedly more going on here thanLovato’s reps are letting us in on, the priority is for the starlet to get help. Which she is. And if the booze and drugs reports do turn out to be true, get her as far away as possible from any enablers.
There’s been no word from Lovato’s reps on the latest tabloid explosion.
P.S. Life & Style. It’s Lovato, not Levato. Details. They matter. Which makes me just a tad cynical about their reporting…
