Mayor Jayne Peters of Coppell, Texas reportedly committed suicide and also shot her 19-year-old daughter, Corinne.
The Mayor of Coppell, Jayne Peters, 55, killed herself by a single gunshot to the head. Peters reportedly shot her 19-year-old daughter, Corinne, in the head before turning the gun on herself.
Police discovered their bodies on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. after Mayor Peters failed to show to a city council meeting.
The mayor’s body was found on the first floor of the home, and her daughter was located upstairs in a bedroom.
Peters left four notes at her home. The one posted on the front door included a key to the home and warned of the horrific scene that would be found inside.
Her letters had instructions on caring for her pets.
Peters was elected mayor in May 2009 and was a city council member since 1998. Her husband died of cancer in January 2008.
