The publicist for troubled actor Charlie Sheen says his alleged naked and drunken tirade in a New York City hotel room was nothing more than an allergic reaction.
Police were called to his room at the legendary Plaza Hotel at around 2 a.m. Tuesday after a woman called to say Sheen was screaming and throwing furniture. The New York Daily News reports Sheen "flipped out" after returning to the room with his date and finding his wallet and cell phone were missing.
Life & Style Weekly reported that Sheen's "date" was an escort, and said police found her naked and locked inside a closet.
In any case, police say the (also) naked Sheen appeared "highly intoxicated." They say he was not arrested, and went voluntarily with them to a hospital, where he is reportedly undergoing psychiatric evaluation.
However, his publicist Stan Rosenfield said this is not what it appears. (What do you mean, Stan? How does this appear?) "What we are able to determine is that Charlie had an adverse allergic reaction to some medication and was taken to the hospital." He said he expects Sheen to be released from the hospital on Wednesday.
Sheen was in New York for a family vacation with former wife Denise Richards and their children. Richards was staying in a different room in the hotel. She was reportedly taken to his room to help authorities deal with him.
It's been an eventful year for Sheen. Last Christmas Day he was arrested in Colorado threatening his current wife with a knife. In August he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault for that incident, and avoided prison time by agreeing to spend a month in rehab.
