"Cake Boss" Star's Sexual Assault Case Goes to Grand Jury

The child-sex case of Remigio “Remy” Gonzalez, the 32-year-old star of “Cake Boss”, was sent to a grand jury to decide if he will be indicted.

After a brief hearing today, Judge Philip Maenza decided to grant the prosecution’s request to forward Gonzalez’ case to a grand jury for review.

Remy Gonzalez was arrested on August 17 by New Jersey police, accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old two times in September 2009 and March 9, 2010.

Remy is the brother-in-law of Cake Boss main star Buddy Valastro. Remy appeared in court handcuffed and remained silent. His lawyer, Ricardo Rodriguez, told the judge he hasn’t had time to fully examine the case file of 291 pages.

Gonzalez remains in a Morris County jail because he cannot afford to pay his $300,000 bond.  Gonzalez faces two counts each of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated criminal sexual contact and criminal sexual contact.

A police report quoted two witnesses that stated Remy first denied the accusations and then later tearfully admitted to the sex crimes after they threatened to have the teenager examined by a physician.  No information as to the sex of the victim has been released.
