Carol Brady got crabs?!
In her about-to-be-released memoir, "Life is Not a Stage," Florence Henderson, who played the matriarch of the "Brady Bunch" TV family, tells the story of her one-night stand with John Lindsay in the 1960s. He was the mayor of New York City from 1966 to 1973, and a US Congressman before that.
She and Lindsay went out for drinks at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Henderson was married at the time, but she'd already been unfaithful, and it didn't take much for her to decide to do it again. Lindsay was also married. "I was lonely. I knew it wasn't the right thing to do. So, what did I do? I did it," Henderson wrote in her book.
When she woke up the next morning, she found "little black things" crawling on her. Her doctor informed her she had crabs. Lindsay sent her flowers and a note saying he was sorry.
"Guess I learned the hard way that crabs do not discriminate but cross over all socioeconomic strata," Henderson wrote in her book. "He must have had quite the active life. What a way to put the kibosh on a relationship."
John Lindsay died in 2000. Henderson is now 77.
"Life is Not a Stage," which is co-written with Joel Brokaw, is due to be released by Hachette's Center Street publishing on September 20.
