U2 frontman Bono has had emergency surgery after injuring his back in Germany.
Reports say Bono suffered the setback while preparing for the group’s 360 tour in Munich, prompting him to require emergency spinal surgery.
“He was admitted to a specialist neurosurgery unit in a Munich hospital,” reads a statement on the band’s website.
“Bono will spend the next few days there, before returning home [to Ireland] to recuperate.
“Once his condition has been assessed further, a statement will be made regarding the impact on forthcoming tour dates.”
The band’s tour was due to kick off in Salt Lake City on June 3, but that date has now been scrapped.
U2 manager Paul McGuinness said: “The band were really looking forward to getting back out on the road.
“We were due to start rehearsals on Tuesday in Salt Lake City and get the show ready for the next leg.
“It’s unfortunate that we are inconveniencing fans — we will make plans to reinstate these dates as soon as possible."
