Bill Maher may have made his bones in entertainment as an unapologetic liberal, but his strong beliefs about the dangerousness of Islam are beginning to separate him from others of his ilk.
On Friday, Ben Affleck joined the ‘Real Time’ panel for what was probably supposed to be a fairly light-hearted discussion. However, when the topic turned to Islam – things got heated very quickly.
Affleck called Maher’s commentary on how Islam is far more dangerous than other religions “gross” and “racist,” while Maher tried to argue that the famed actor simply wasn’t being honest about the realities of the world we are living in.
Other people on the panel quickly took sides in the debate.
Author and neuroscientist, Sam Harris, who has made his own share of polarizing comments regarding Islam, argued that the religion is the “motherload of bad ideas.”
Former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Michael Steele offered a counterargument, noting that many Muslim clerics had stood up against Islamic extremism and never got any media coverage for it.
Things eventually cooled down, but it was a surprisingly lively argument all things considered. Check out the entire thing in the video below.
