Legendary Hollywood actor Andy Griffith died on Tuesday morning in Dare County, North Carolina.
He was 86 years old.
While details surrounding the final few hours of Griffith’s life remain murky at the moment, according to E Online, he passed at around 7:00 a.m. in his Dare County home. There is no word yet on whether or not he was surrounded by family at the time.
Griffith was best known for his roles on "The Andy Griffith Show" and “Matlock.” The latter ran from 1986 to 1995, and the former ran from 1960 to 1968.
In 1999 Griffith was inducted into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Later, in 2007, he was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
Griffith received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George W. Bush back in 2005.
