Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has revealed that he blew about $20 million on heroin and cocaine in the 1980s.
Tyler wrote in his autobiography which is being released this week, “I blew 20 million. I snorted my Porsche, I snorted my plane, I snorted my house in that din of drugs and booze and being lost.”
Steven,62, who is now a judge on “American Idol”, said that he even did drugs on stage when performing with Aerosmith.
The rocker revealed, “I kept my medicine cabinet on stage, in a fourteen-inch drum head, the bottom of which contained . . . one Dixie cup with a straw and blow in it and the other with Coca-Cola and Jack Daniels in it.”
The singer went for treatment in rehab several times and admits he is lucky to be alive after his drug and alcohol abuse.
“Left to my own devices I probably would have been dead several times over,” Tyler stated.
Tyler said it wasn’t until about his eighth go-round in rehab in 2009 that he realized he needed to be sober for his kids.
“When my son looked me in the eye, crying, and said, Dad you were so high last night and I was afraid, I needed that”, he said.
The Aerosmith frontman’s autobiography is entitled “Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?”, which chronicles his drug abuse.
Tyler said that being a judge on the popular singing show now has helped keep him sober.
“I’m on Idol now – the last thing I’d want the world to see is me slurring my words. I don’t ever want to be a bad example again.”
