While vacationing in Toronto, a 77-year-old Ohio man found himself badly injured after he tripped, hit a scaffolding pole and cut his neck. Luckily for Jim Walpole, two strangers rushed to his aid.
Walpole and his wife, Marilyn, were on their way back to their hotel after dinner when the incident happened. Though Walpole’s wife is a nurse she was so traumatized by the accident she "forgot all her nursing stuff."
"It just totally terrified me," Marilyn Walpole told ABC News.
Famous actor, John Malkovich, and the restaurant’s owner, Ben Quinn, immediately came to help Walpole.
"Two gentleman, I don't know where they came from, came to my aid," Walpole said. "They knew exactly what to do."
Walpole said the two men put pressure on his neck wound and helped soothe his wife until help arrived, reported The Washington Times.
Walpole did not recognize Malkovich as one of his rescuers.
“I asked, ‘What’s your name?’ [Malkovich] said, ‘John,” Walpole told The Huffington Post. “And I didn’t ask the last name ‘cause I didn’t figure I’d remember it anyhow. [Malkovich] took over just like a doctor.”
Walpole was released from the hospital with 10 stitches and a broken finger. Nurses told him if his wound was moved down an eighth of an inch, it would have hit a main artery, reported ABC News.
"I have nothing but praise for those two gentlemen," he said. "I'm just so thankful for all the help they gave me."
His wife was also grateful for the kindness of the two strangers.
"How many people would stop and help somebody?" Marilyn Walpole said. "I don't know where they came from. I just know [Malkovich and Quinn] were two angels.
Walpole only recognized Malkovich for his role in “Secretariat,” but said, "believe me, I'm going to be watching all of [his films] now."
