Premila Lal was shot and killed this week when she tried to play a prank on her brother in Longmont, Colorado.
Praveen Lal said his 18-year-old daughter and her 12-year-old cousin entered their former house to surprise her 15-year-old brother on Friday night.
They hid in a closet inside the home, but when they jumped out, Nerrek Galley, a family friend, allegedly shot Premila (video below).
“They somehow entered the house. And my son and Nerrek didn’t know it was them. And there was an accidental shooting. After she was shot, then Nerrek realized it was Premila,” Praveen told KDVR.
Galley, Lal’s brother and the cousin took Lal to Longmont United Hospital, where she died around 9 p.m.
Lal’s brother and Galley were living in the house, which Lal’s parents had recently moved out of.
According to Longmont Police Commander Jeff Satur, Galley was charged with reckless endangerment, child abuse and a felony gun charge. Police have not decided whether or not to charge him with killing Premila.
