Yesenia Ramirez, 13, was robbed at gunpoint by some of her classmates on Monday while selling candy to raise money for school band members who couldn't afford a school trip to Six Flags.
According to CBS Dallas-Fort Worth, a group of boys approached her and a friend at an apartment complex. One of them came up from behind, put her in a choke hold and held a gun to her neck.
“He was choking me and putting a gun on me,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez remembers the boy telling her the gun was real and saying, “Give me your chocolates."
After he released her, the boy told Ramirez his gun wasn’t real and that he was only joking, but Ramirez didn't believe him. “No. Because he really choked me hard. I couldn’t breathe.”
Ramirez said there were about eight boys, most of them seventh graders from her school, the Pearl C. Andersen Learning Center.
The boys didn't take the candy but did steal her cell phone.
Ramirez's father, Juan Carlos Hernandez, reported the incident to the school and filed a police report.
“Because she has all week been selling candy, they thought she had the money with her. And they wanted the money, especially from her,” said Hernandez.
