World's Oldest Father, 97-Year-Old Ramajit Raghav, Crushed After Wife Leaves Him

I guess you’re never too old to be dumped.

97-year-old Ramajit Raghav, a resident of northern India, made news in 2010 when he claimed to be the oldest man to father a child. He was 94 years old.

In 2012, he broke his own record when he fathered a second child at the age of 96.

But the ageless wonder is heartbroken today as his wife, Shakuntala Devi, has left him. As if getting dumped isn’t hard enough already, Devi took the couple's soon to be one-year-old with her. The couple’s eldest son went missing last year, which means Raghav has gone from being the father of a family of four to being completely alone.

“Last year, around this time, we were so happy. Ranjeet (the youngest son) was born. I felt blessed,” Raghav said. “This year, all I have is my loneliness and the company of the four walls of my house.”

Raghav said his relationship with his wife, who is in her mid-50’s, became strained last year when their first child went missing.

“We could never find him after he went missing. We went from pillar to post in search of our son. But we got nothing. When Bikramjeet went missing, I was devastated. But without my wife I feel so helpless. I think my world has come to an end,” he said.

“She just left last week. She did not say anything. She just walked out of the door with Ranjeet in her arms. I don't know where they are or why she left me. Shakuntala and I have been together for 23 years,” Raghav said. “But 23 years later, she seems to have chosen her path. All I can do it is wait for her to return.

“I sit by the door most of the time. I think she will return soon. I am waiting. I love her and I know she loves me.”
