A Glasgow mother was reportedly attacked by her boyfriend as their three-week-old daughter lay just feet away. The man has been sentenced to 13 months in jail after admitting to the attack.
Ashley Gebbie, 37, suffered serious injuries in early July after she was attacked by boyfriend Alan Crozier, the father of her three-week-old daughter, according to the Daily Mail. The newborn was reported to be laying in a pram just feet away when the attack took place.
Crozier, 33, who has bipolar disorder, admitted to attacking his girlfriend and has been sentenced to 13 months in jail. Police described the attack as unprovoked.
"The incident was an unprovoked violent attack on Ashley, who had recently given birth to the couple's child," said a police spokesman. "She was left with significant injuries. Ashley's bravery in contacting police immediately led to Alan Crozier being swiftly arrested and subsequently convicted for serious assault."
After Crozier received his sentence, Gebbie's family took to social media in a post describing the incident. Photos included in the post show Gebbie's face covered in massive black bruises.
"Their baby was 3 weeks old in the pram beside Ashley when he attacked her. The police have a tape recording of part of the assault," read the post. "The great guy then done a runner and hid in Glasgow while everyone searched for him thinking he was going to harm himself."
"As a family we are releasing this information because he is in jail and waiting to be sentenced, which should be a long one," the post continued. "What kind of guy does this to a tiny [84 pound] girl 3 weeks after giving birth by cesarean section, I know what kind but sadly there are those who do not believe the evidence."
The two had reportedly been dating for around 13 months at the time of the incident. The incident began when the couple had an argument about Crozier not coming home until 2:30 a.m. Crozier confessed that he then grabbed Gebbie's hair and punched her repeatedly along with grabbing her neck.
Diarmid Bruce, a defense lawyer for Crozier, said that while he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, he had not taken medication in two years because he had been in "a good place" in his relationship.
After the incident, Gebbie was taken to a hospital to be treated for extensive bruising as well as damage to her eye socket.
