A man was shot to death this morning after a failed robbery attempt at an Alabama Hotel.
The incident occurred at 3:40 am at America’s Best Inn and Suites on Summit Parkway. A woman was inside her room when a man barged in and tried to rob her at gunpoint, according to police.
Police spokesman Andrew Didcoct said that the woman then pulled out her own gun and shot the man. The would-be robber was pronounced dead on the scene. He was not carrying any identification at the time.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office has identified the man as 24-year-old Kentrell Lamar Hudson. They added that the man was a father and a husband.
The woman was taken to police headquarters for questioning but was released without being charged. "It looks like self-defense at this time," Didcoct told AL.com. "He tried to rob her and she shot him."
Didcoct added that the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office will review the case.
This morning’s homicide was the first in Homewood this year. The city only had one recorded homicide in 2014.
