Gladys Thompson, from Ellisville, Mississippi, noticed something unusual about her pack of Kraft Cheese Singles, but it wasn’t the cheddar taste that caught her attention.
"Every piece is full of glass,” she told WDAM.
Thompson’s mother opened the pack of cheese on March 24 to make sandwiches for her grandchildren. That’s when she noticed what looked like pieces of glass.
"My sister was sick back in January, so I went by a store in Petal to pick up cheese for a grilled cheese sandwich," Thompson said. "My mother actually had some cheese slices already, so we didn't open the pack until just now."
Kraft Foods Group, which is currently in the process of merging with H.J. Heinz Co., recalled 6.5 million boxes of macaroni and cheese that contained pieces of metal last week, according to NYDailyNews.
"Occasionally people find something that looks like glass on the surface of their cheese that’s actually either lactose crystals or phosphate crystals," Kraft Foods said in a statement.
The company plans to test the cheese and reimburse Thompson.
"I just wanted to get the word out to others in the area who may have bought the same cheese," Thompson said.
