Shatanya Arielette Beasley, 26, allegedly planted a cricket on her plate in order to obtain a free meal from Applebee’s.
Beasley, of Charlotte, North Carolina, complained about the cricket in her meal on April 15 and received a free meal. However, a manager at the restaurant noticed she left her wallet, which contained a bag of crickets, on the table. The manager told Beasley to pay for her meal, but she apparently left with her son without offering any money. An employee took down her license plate number, according to police.
Beasley was arrested on Friday and charged with felony obtaining property by false pretense, although she was later released on a $2,500 secured bond.
The restaurant manager told police he doesn’t want to press charges anymore because Beasley came back and paid her debt, Gaston Gazette reported. However, because warrants were already served, the manager will either have to go to court or call the District Attorney’s office.
