An Orlando, Florida, man was accused of murder after police discovered he posted on his wife's Facebook page to convince her family that she was still alive.
Officers arrived at the home of 42-year-old George McShane on Jan. 10 after a family member called police to say they felt as though his wife, Kristen, was dead and that McShane was going to kill himself, according to media reports.
When authorities arrived at the home, McShane's brother was there and went into the garage to find him sitting in a car with the engine running.
The brother then went to McShane's bedroom and reportedly found his wife lying on a bed, lacking any "signs of life."
Detectives say McShane admitted to killing his wife by choking her while they were arguing, and then went on her Facebook page and posted a status as a way to convince people she was alive, WKMG reports.
"I can't believe I dropped my phone in the toilet," the Jan. 7 post read. "I'm such an idiot. Message me here, til I can get it fixed."
Authorities arrested McShane and charged him with second-degree murder and battery by strangulation. He was jailed without bond.
The couple has two children, a 6-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy.
"She was a walking encyclopedia," Kristen's friend told the Orlando Sentinel. "It was amazing how many little facts she knew about everything."
The friend went on to say that Kirsten was a beautiful "bottle of sunshine," who was always willing to help others.
Family members and friends took to social media to mourn the woman following her horrific murder.
"There are just no words that can explain the tragedy that has happened to a beautiful person as Kristen McShane," one friend wrote in a status. "I believe I can say that all persons that knew her (have) a sad heart! She was loved by all!"
A GoFundMe was created to help the couple's children following their mother's death and their father's arrest.
