A woman mentioned by Santa Barbara shooter Elliot Rodger in his 137-page manifesto was “devastated” to learn she was used as his motivation for the mass murder, but she does not remember who he is.
A 20-year-old woman referred to as an “evil bitch” who allegedly “teased and ridiculed” Rodger when they were kids was younger than him and had not seen him since seventh grade, her father told the New York Daily News.
“She was 10 years old,” her father told the Daily News in a phone interview. “He was two years older than her. He was in my son’s class. She was in the seventh grade and he was in eighth grade. … Can you imagine a 10-year-old kid bullying a 12-year-old? This little, petite girl bullying him?”
In the manifesto the 22-year-old emailed to his family before the killing spree Friday, Rodger refers to her as the “pretty blonde girl” who “must have thought I was an ultimate loser.”
“I hated her so much, and I will never forget her,” he wrote. “I started to hate all girls because of this. I saw them as mean, cruel and heartless creatures that took pleasure from my suffering.”
He claimed the girl “wounded me deeply.”
The girl's father said his daughter now lives in fear, even though Rodger is dead, worrying a “copycat” killer could go after her. The Daily News has withheld her name from reports to protect her privacy and safety.
“She’s devastated by this,” her father said. “She doesn’t even remember this guy. … She’s always been the most delicate kid you’d ever want to meet. For him to call her a bully, this kid was really disillusioned.”
He suggested Rodger saw her as his enemy because “he couldn’t have her.”
“She hadn’t seen him since seventh grade,” he said. “She just knew he was an odd type of person at the time. I guess he had this secret crush on her that no one knew about.”
Her father said his heart goes out to the victims’ families.
“I lost a child at the age of 2,” he said. “I know how hard it was for me. You never get over it. I can’t imagine what they’re going through right now. I can’t imagine what Elliot’s parents are going through right now.”
