An Oregon woman accused of having an incestuous relationship with her biological father pleaded guilty to felony incest. She was sentenced to 10 days in jail, according to the Lane County Circuit Court.
Chalena Moody, 25, will not receive any more jail time after being released on Tuesday. She is placed on an 18-month probationary period. Part of the probation is the stipulation that she cannot contact her father, Eric Lee Gates, 49.
Gates is serving 60 days in the Lane County Jail for violating his probation by moving in with Moody after pleading guilty. He has also been sentenced to the same probationary stipulations as Moody.
According to the Daily Mail, Moody never knew Gates while growing up. It is only recently that they found one another and began their consensual yet illegal relationship.
Gates fathered two children with his daughter during this time, while a third died in utero.
Their two children have numerous health issues and are now in the custody of the state.
"There's issues with the children, and they've been put into foster care," said Springfield Police Sgt. Dave Lewis. "It's not a good situation all around."
Gates has been ordered to pay for the children's medical expenses.
Lewis also added that a DNA test had been conducted to confirm the fact that Gates and Moody were father and daughter, and that the two children were their offspring.
Incest is a class C felony in the state of Oregon.
According to the Daily Mail, "Oregon State law defines incest as when a person marries or engages in sexual intercourse or deviate sexual intercourse with another whom the person knows to be related to them, either legitimately or illegitimately, as an ancestor, descendant, brother or sister of either whole or half-blood."
