A hospital employee was fired from her job after posting a controversial status on Facebook regarding the Michael Brown shooting and aftermath in Ferguson, Missouri.
According to reports, the unidentified Texas woman took to her Facebook page to express her harsh thoughts on the situation in Ferguson following the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown.
“The police need to just start mowing them down with machine guns, purge them,” said the woman of the riots and protests fueled by racial tension in the town where Brown was killed.
Following her post, people were shocked and offended that the woman would publicly say what she did, and one man says he was even more shocked to see that she worked at a local hospital.
“Very racist," said the man. "I was highly offended. It shouldn't be tolerated when you're a professional. A hospital is a place where you're supposed to have compassion upon people of all races. People were pretty upset about it [the post].”
Now, Memorial Hermann Hospital, where the woman was employed at the time of her post, has announced that they’ve fired her for what she wrote on Facebook.
“A non nurse employee posted an offensive comment,” tweeted the hospital. “MH absolutely disagrees with that post. We have a 107-year history of serving everyone. The individual is no longer an employee of Memorial Hermann."
In the state of Texas, a person can reportedly be fired from their job for almost any reason at all, according to KHOU, so the argument that the woman’s freedom of speech has been infringed upon is irrelevant. The woman has yet to publicly comment on her posting and subsequent firing.
