Woman Finds Coffin In Her New Backyard

Deedee Oliveira of Mission, Texas, faced her own version of the 1980s horror classic “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” Although Oliveira wasn’t visited by Freddy Krueger, she did make a grim discovery while renovating the backyard of her home -- which is, in fact, on Elm Street.

On Oct. 20, workers hit a hard box while digging in the backyard, Valley Central reported.

"They called, and they let my dad know first that they found a box. And so my dad said, 'Okay, we'll move the box later so you can finish'," Oliveira said.

However, Oliviera was stunned when she realized the box was actually a four-foot long coffin.

"I'm like, 'A coffin? What do you mean a coffin?" Olivera said. "I can't even explain it; it was huge, it had the handles. It was really rusted, and it had bags wrapped around it.”

Investigators swarmed the property.

"They had seen little booties and pink little bears, and then one of the guys said that he had seen bones," Oliveira said.

Just as she began considering the worst, a neighbor who knew the previous owners of the home spoke up.

"My new neighbor told me that the people that used to live here had a funeral for a pet, but it was for a cocker spaniel, and those are pretty small dogs. We were like wait, a dog can't possibly be in that large coffin," Oliveira said.

Fortunately, the neighbor was correct and a photo of the dog was inside the coffin.

"Thank God it was a dog and not human remains," Oliveira said. "If [it was] I think I would've gone crazy."

The coffin has been there for about 30 years, WACH reported. The dog’s remains were taken away by the city.
