When a woman found out that her husband was a registered sex offender, she recruited some help and put her her man to the test in a viral video (below). After she caught him lying about his relationship situation and giving his phone number to a girl who said she was 16, it's fair to say that the couple have their fair share of problems to work through -- and that's only the tip of the iceberg.
It started when a neighbor told Ellen, the wife, that a person living at Ellen's address was on a sex offender registry. When Ellen questioned her husband about it, he refused to tell her the full story and just said that it "wasn't a big deal" and "happened a long time ago," as Ellen recounts to the host of the YouTube show "To Catch a Cheater."
The secret camera channel, which released the footage on Aug. 21, follows Ellen's husband to a park, where he is feeding ducks. In the video, an 18-year-old actress approaches the man and flirts with him.
"I was bored, and I'm on my lunch break and I saw you, and I thought you looked really cute," says the girl, who initially implies that she is in college but then confesses that she is actually 16 going on 17, putting her below the age of consent, which is 18 in California, according to Legal Match.
In the footage, the man asks where his new friend's parents are and suggests that she move "a little bit further away," since she keeps scooting closer.
When she asks him if he wants "to hang out sometime," he responds that he is "sort of dating someone."
Ellen, who is watching the footage, grows visibly upset at this point.
The girl then asks to exchange numbers and tells him she wants to "be friends."
He obliges and takes down her digits.
She gives him a hug as they part ways, but then he notices that she has a mic pack attached to her pants, so he pursues her as the girl hops in an SUV. The girl and a driver speed off, laughing as the man runs after the car.
As the wife watches the video, she becomes distraught and says that she thinks her husband would have taken things further "if he hadn't seen a mic."
"I want to know the truth," Ellen says through tears. "I want to know what I'm gonna do after this. That there is clarification and now I know that I'm living with a stranger."
The video says that the couple stayed together and, with the help of the show, are attending marriage counseling in Torrance, California.
