After allowing the man who had molested her children to move back into her home, Darrika Driver was arrested on multiple counts of child cruelty and harboring a sex offender.
Natavious Mays, 22, had just finished serving a jail sentence for molesting Driver’s two daughters, ages 12 and 14. Upon his release, he moved back in with Driver, his girlfriend, whereupon he allegedly again molested the older daughter.
According to authorities, he even recorded himself doing so on his cellphone.
When law enforcement officers arrived at the apartment complex Driver lived in to inquire about Mays’ whereabouts, Driver, 31, lied and told them she did not know where he lived. After further investigating the situation, law enforcement again showed up at Driver’s residence, kicked down the door when no one answered, and found an empty apartment: the couple, apparently, had fled.
Police managed to track them down days later, and arrested both Driver and Mays.
Driver’s neighbors have expressed horror over Driver’s allowing Mays to move back in with her. Neighbor Jermaine Clark said, “They don’t deserve to be parents. I wouldn’t give them (any) kids to tell you the truth.”
Neighbor Aleia Berry referred to the situation as “disgusting” and “awful.” As for why Driver would ever permit the man who harmed her children to move back in with her, Berry provided the option that she might have been “stupid in love.”
Clayton County Magistrate Court Judge Beatrice Scott expressed similar disgust for Driver. “You intentionally lied to law enforcement officers about where the sex offender lived, knowing he was not to reside with your children,” Scott said.
Mays faces charges of aggravated child molestation, production of child pornography, and failure to register as a sex offender.
