A Seattle sheriff’s deputy is now on paid leave after he and his estranged wife became the center of a prostitution investigation.
The 49-year-old King County Sheriff’s deputy, who was not named, allegedly helped his wife, who was working as a prostitute for extra cash, by running background checks on her clients.
One source familiar with the inquiry told the Seattle Times that the FBI is assisting in the investigation.
The deputy has not been arrested or charged with a crime. He could face charges for promoting prostitution and misuse of public property.
The accused is a 19-year veteran, who is reportedly going through a messy divorce, according to the Times. He has accused his wife of working as an escort, abandoning their two children and harassing him.
Two other deputies are also under investigation for possibly tipping off the accused about the criminal inquiry.
