A 68-year-old British man has been convicted of engaging in sexual acts in front of a minor and possessing child pornography, after being nabbed in an online sting operation. Who was the mastermind running the sting? His own wife.
Cheryl Roberts, 61, was concerned because of the amount of time her husband David was spending on his computer. When a sexual message appeared on his screen while he was out, she investigated and found her husband of 20 years was logging onto teen chat rooms.
So one day with David at his computer and in a chat room, Cheryl went to another computer inside the house and logged onto the site. There she pretended to be a 14-year-old girl. In addition to exchanging sexual messages, David performed a sex act for his webcam, thinking a minor was watching.
It was after David asked to meet her for sex that Cheryl called the police. Authorities arrested the husband, and found illegal images on his computer. Later, David was stunned when he found out that his own wife was the teenage girl, and she had ratted him out.
David said he never had sex with minors, but he was prepared to. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to three years community service.
The couple is divorcing -- probably no shock there. But Cheryl told The Daily Mail she thinks the sentence was too lenient. "I was shocked at the sentence - I don't think he's got what he deserves. I thought the judge would be a lot harder and that he might go to prison. I still feel very angry towards him. It is hard to think that a man you married could do this.
"But I did the right thing and I don't regret it. Now I just need some time to think and put all this behind me."
