A video of an unidentified white man driving around Ferguson, Mo., and insulting black people surfaced today.
Ferguson has experienced protests, riots and looting over the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old African-American who was fatally shot by a police officer over the weekend.
According to CrooksandLiars.com, the video (below) was originally uploaded by a YouTube user named "Brandon" who wrote, "Crazy white guy driving a 2014 yellow camaro. He was filming and dropped his camera so I wanted to post this to the world. please share!!"
The video was later taken down, but re-posted on YouTube.
“If it was a white person, nobody would care,” the white man yells at black protesters holding signs outside a local convenience store. “F--- y’all.”
“Look at all this trash and you call yourselves educated," adds the man. "That’s why you’re in north county.”
The car drives through the parking lot of the convenience store where the man tells some black people to “go back to Africa."
"If it was a white person, nobody would give a f---," states the man. "Look at that n------.”
Ferguson, a suburb of St. Louis, has a population that is 65 percent black, reports The Los Angeles Times, but there are only three African-Americans on Ferguson's police force, which employs 53 officers.
In 2013, African-Americans made up 93 percent of the arrests in Ferguson, 92 percent of police searches and 80 percent of traffic stops, according to a report by the Missouri attorney general, notes The Los Angeles Times.
Ferguson police officers have been firing tear gas and rubber bullets to stop protests and looting over the past couple of days. There is now a no-fly zone over Ferguson.
A Ferguson Police Department spokesperson told ThinkProgress.org that the no-fly zone was in effect “because we have multiple helicopters maneuvering in the area and we were having some problems with news aircrafts flying around there."
However, ThinkProgress.org notes that local police have also tried to stop journalists from covering the community protests on the ground.
