Woman Finds Three-Foot Snake In Dryer

An Alabama woman was shocked when an appliance technician found a three-foot snake in her dryer.

Clara Lassater was doing laundry when she noticed something was wrong, WSFA News reported.

"I turned on the dryer, and I heard three large thuds, and then it made a whirring noise and it was done," Lassater told WSFA News.

Timothy Jenkins, a technician, was called in to take a look and what he found was something he said he’d never seen before in his 10 years of repairing appliances.

"It was a three-foot snake that was found in the back,” Lassater explained. “I don't know how long it was in before, that's what's scary. I have no idea how long it was in there before. That's actually terrifying.”

Jenkins said it could have been worse.

"If they pulled the lint screen out and left it out, it could have [gotten into] the dryer," Jenkins said. "Reptiles, snakes like heat. That's where your heat comes out, so they are going to follow it and if it's not sealed off, they can get in there easily.”

Jenkins said the best way to prevent this from happening to you is to clean the lint out of your vents outside. Lint can build up and leave openings in vents for unwanted critters to come in through. This should also be done to avoid fires.

"The point of a dryer vent is to get the moisture and the excess heat out, and when it can't get out, it just get's hotter and hotter and hotter and it can catch on fire," Jenkins said.
