Burglars Steal Priceless Ashes From Family

Just when things couldn't get worse for a Washington State couple whose home was invaded, they did. The household items and electronics the burglars stole were nothing compared to the theft of the priceless box containing the ashes of the couple's deceased baby.

Five years ago, Jessica and Brian Kropf lost their one-year-old son, Casey, to brain cancer.

"He's been gone from us for years," said Brian, according to KIRO. "We haven't been able to enjoy his company, but we at least felt some comfort knowing he was near us."

The Kropfs decided to cremate the child so that Jessica could be buried with the ashes when she passes, according to Breitbart.

“The reason I didn't bury him is because I wanted him to be with me when I find a place, when I pass,” Jessica said. “Wherever they end up burying me, I wanted to have him with me. I never wanted to be away from him.”

On March 28, the couple came home to find their basement door kicked in and their home looted by thieves.

"Once I came inside, I noticed that the TV was completely gone off the wall," Brian said.

The robbers even took the couple’s tools and their computer.

“The most important thing that we lost was a small white box that had our son's ashes in them,” Jessica said.

The white cremation box was held in a fire safe along with other important papers in the bedroom, reports KIRO. There was a small metal tag along with the ashes, indicating they came from Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home in Fairfax, Virginia, where the baby was cremated.

“He was still part of our family,” Brian added. “And he's not anymore. He's literally, like, taken from us.”

Weeks have passed since the robbery happened, but to the Kopfs it’s like mourning the loss of Casey all over again.

The cremation box is something that only has value to the parents, and they’re worried Casey’s ashes are long gone by now.

“I really hope he's not in a landfill,” Jessica said. “I worry that he is because he doesn’t deserve to be in the trash some place.”
