X-Rays Reveal What This Puppy Swallowed (Video)

An old sock meant one Texas puppy had to undergo surgery after he spent days vomiting and refusing to eat (video below).

A family of four had just recently adopted Thanos, a 4-month-old pit bull, when he became ill, InsideEdition reports.

"It's really scary; he's like a member of our family," the father said. "We didn't know what was going to happen. The kids were worried. We're a family together."

The concerned family took the puppy to veterinarian Dr. Michael Lavigne in Cyprus, Texas.

Lavigne said it was common for puppies to show some of the symptoms, but he decided to probe further.

"Thanos was vomiting and not eating for several days when he was brought in on this visit. He was lethargic and didn't want to play or do much of anything like he normally would,” said Lavigne.

The veterinarian took some X-rays to rule out internal problems. Lavigne soon saw there was something stuck in the puppy’s stomach, although he couldn’t identify what it was.

Lavigne decided to perform surgery.

"Because of how long he had gone without eating, it was definitely time to go in surgically to explore. Waiting too long to go to surgery can sometimes be detrimental,” explained Lavigne.

During surgery, Lavigne discovered what was causing the dog's issues.

"It looks like ... is that a sock?" the veterinarian said during a video of the surgery.

The sock had caused bruising and inflammation to Thanos' intestinal tract. If it hadn’t had already passed through the puppy’s intestines, Lavigne may not have been able to pull the sock out so easily.

"Because I didn't end up having to open the intestines or stomach, the surgery was not as invasive or complicated, which resulted in a much quicker time for Thanos," Lavigne said.

A few months later, the puppy is doing well, reports InsideEdition.

"Thanos is doing great now! He's growing a lot, and back to being a normal, playful puppy,” said Lavigne.
