Watch This Wheelchair-Bound Teen Walk Across Stage For Her Diploma (Video)


A wheelchair-bound Ohio teen stood up and walked across the stage at her high school graduation in Columbia Station Friday.

Columbia High School senior, Katharine Clark, was born with cerebral palsy is considered quadriplegic.

Katharine’s father, Vince Clark, promised to carry his daughter everywhere, but he passed away suddenly in 2007.

“I want to make my dad proud,” she told Fox 8 Cleveland.

She practiced for two years to walk across the stage at graduation to honor his memory.

With the help of family, staff at her school and health care aids, she used special equipment to help her stand. It took her one year to learn who to use the device and another year before she could walk with it.

When he name was called Friday, with tears streaming down her face, she walked across the stage to receive her diploma. The top of her cap said: “I did it Dad.”

“She’s just an awesome young lady,” said her teacher, Sarah Jones.

Katharine’s message to other people out their facing insurmountable odds: “Just try.”
