Preschool Teacher Knocks Down Special Needs Boy (Video)

A special education teacher at a Tifton, Georgia, preschool resigned from her job after she was caught on surveillance video (below) knocking a young special needs student to the ground in the school hallway.

The teacher, Amelia Stripling, was seen in video footage thrusting her knee into the small boy's back and causing him to fall down as the two of them entered the door of a classroom at the Tift County Pre-K Center in Tifton on March 17, WALB reported.

The child's mother, Sarah Patterson, said her son turned 4 years old just a few days after the incident, on March 23.

The boy, who can be seen wearing a green T-shirt and blue backpack in the video, was reportedly not injured. However, Tift County School officials notified his mother of the incident and also reported it to the local Division of Family and Child Services.

After learning of the incident, Patterson filed a report with the Tifton Police Department on March 20, according to the Tifton Gazette.

She has since hired a lawyer.

Stacey Beckham, the director of communications for Tift County Schools, said Stripling was sent home for the rest of the day immediately after school officials realized what she had done.

The teacher, who has been employed with the school district for more than 20 years, has resigned from her job, WALB reported. Her teacher page has been removed from the school's website.
