'We Heard Him Just Meowing': Couple Finds Kitten Hiding Underneath Car's Hood (Photo)

A Florida woman is looking for a cat who was living under the hood of her car for at least two days.

Lilian Stewart, 24, found a note attached to her windshield on Dec. 17 after work, ABC News reported.

“I think there is a cat stuck under (inside) your car," the note read. "I keep hearing a meow. Please check.”

Stewart told ABC News she first “heard meowing” the day before. She said she didn’t think much of it because a lot of stray cats live in her Jacksonville neighborhood.

After checking the vehicle, she couldn’t find or hear anything. She assumed the kitten must have escaped.

But when she started driving home, she heard meowing again. She called her boyfriend, who found the cat hiding in the back of the engine.

“We were concerned about his safety and about whether or not he was hurt,” Stewart told the news station. “We tried to lure him out and get him, but he was really scared.”

The couple used a straw to feed the cat water, but it still wouldn’t come out.

“Ultimately, what happened was, we left out a bowl of cat food near the car, and when we came out a few minutes later, we realized he had eaten the food and he had come out of the car on his own,” Stewart explained.

Stewart and her boyfriend went to get gas a few minutes later and heard meowing once again. The kitten had returned.

“When we came home that night, we left the cat food there again,” Stewart said. “We heard him just meowing throughout the night. We assumed he would come out and eat the cat food again at night. Our plan was to call animal control.”

The following day, the cat was gone. Stewart is now keeping an eye out for the kitten and hopes to get animal control involved.

“My main concern was that the cat would be hurt,” she said. “I was really concerned after I drove around for two days without knowing he was in there.”
